«Buying sex is not a sport» Campaign

Press Release

Wednesday June 1st 2016 was held a press conference launching the campaign " Buying sex is not a sport." initiated by Beacon of the Freed in collaboration with the YWCA of Montreal, La CLES, the CATHII and the Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal. The campaign's main financial contributor,  the Secrétariat à la condition féminine du Québec, was represented by the Minister responsible for the condition of women, Mrs. Lise Thériault.

Public display

The campaign "Buying sex is not a sport" had a massive public display for several weeks, all around Montreal and surroudings. Here is an overview  of our visibility.

- 25 road billboards

- 40 bus panels 

- 56 metro stations.

- Illuminated promotion vehicle (around the Grand Prix festivities).

Social media campaign

Here is the official poster of the social media campaign "Buying sex is not a sport". Many public figures supported the campaign and  their pictures, holding the poster, were shared widely.

Our campaing "Buying sex is not a game ends"

The video has seen a lot of visibility, with more than 132,000 views on Facebook and YouTube!

Awareness-raising activities

World Social Forum 2016

August 17, 2016

We were at Complexe Desjardins from August 10 to August 12. In addition to raising public awareness about human trafficking in Quebec, we continued the promotion of our campaign.

Convention of the Association Hôtellerie Québec

On may 16th 2016, we were at the convention of the Association Hôtellerie Québec, in order to sensitize the hotel owners to the reality of sexual exploitation and to encourage them to detect and intervene when they become aware of cases of sexual exploitation in their establishments. 

La puissance de nos voix : Forum sur l'abus et la traite humaine

On june 4th 2016, Beacon of the Freed was present at the second edition of this event organized by Le Zèbre Jaune  to raise awareness towards the issue of human trafficking. A creative way to fight!

Community consultation

In 2012, a community consultation was held by the predecessor of our organization, Les Affranchies, in collaboration with the RCMP. The consultation, which regrouped many stakeholders from both the private and the public sectors, aimed to evaluate what's done and what needs to be done to fight human trafficking in Quebec. The document is only available in french.
