Human trafficking in the Laurentians.

The issue of human trafficking is complex and often clandestine. For this reason, the Beacon of the Freed and the Cégep de Saint-Jérôme worked together to carry out a research with stakeholders likely to be in contact with victims of human trafficking in the Laurentians.

Phase 1 of the research has documented:

  • The level of knowledge of respondents;

  • The profile of the victims;

  • The needs of victims from a stakeholder perspective;

  • The services offered and missing.

The research also helped pinpoint possible solutions to better answer the needs of social workers and victims.

Phase 2: An ongoing research

We are currently pursuing research to improve our knowledge of the realities of people who are victims of trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation and for the purposes of work in the Laurentians. This research will be carried out through interviews with those affected and will provide a better understanding of the influence of the different systems that surround them in their process of victimization and exit from the experience of trafficking.
